Our Mission...

Southern Utah Pride Association Inc. (SUPAI) is a non-profit 501c3 organization that fosters a culture in which all people and their individual differences are not only accepted, but celebrated! SUPAI is chartered as the primary provider of support to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) communities of southern Utah. Our goal is to promote an atmosphere of inclusive community values for the youth, HIV/AIDS awareness, and GLBT counseling. SUPAI supports the community through volunteerism, and provides educational information to all members of our community regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, and religion.

A Little History...

Southern Utah Pride Poster from 2003
Southern Utah Pride planted its roots in Springdale, Utah in the Fall of 2003 with the help of organizers and founders Aimee Selfridge, Amie Whipple, Christian Bradshaw, and a group of local St. George residents. The event was held on Saturday, November 8, 2003 in the outskirts of St George, Utah, in a small tourist town at the mouth of Zion National Park for fear of backlash and violence from the St George community. With less than 100 in attendance, the first Southern Utah Pride marched a new voice of liberation in rural Utah. The great success of the first event drowned out the distant voices of fear and discrimination, event criticism from the GLBT community of Salt Lake City, as the celebration quietly moved from a dream in the making, to a true reality.

The fourth year saw new leadership and a more ambitious Pride Event. We overcame obstacles and hardships and for the first time had over 500 people in attendance. It also saw the introductory presentation of the Claudia Bradshaw Humanitarian Award. Named in honor of - and awarded to - the founder of the PFLAG Organization of St. George, Claudia Bradshaw. A remarkable woman who became a GLBT advocate in St George, after her son came out to her on a family trip in 1998. They also introduced the Drag Queen and King of Southern Utah Pride.

The Fifth year for Southern Utah Pride was tremendous and memorable for everyone. The organization had fully recovered through its hardships, financial issues, and hoped to see a record attendance of people as they enjoyed the fifth anniversary of Southern Utah Pride @ Zion. They were not disappointed as they saw their numbers for attendance swell beyond 1,000 people! This year Southern Utah Pride Association had also become an official Utah Not-For-Profit Corporation. Our Community Awareness Program, Volunteer Efforts and Charity Ventures are continually being expanded, developed and refined, endeavoring to become second to none. Springdale Police Chief Kurt Wright was the recipient of this year's Claudia Bradshaw award for his phenomenal service to the GLBT community and genorous assistance in helping to make our Zion event happen year after year.

Today's Dreams, Tomorrow's Future

For 2008 it is our grand desire to continue to see the growth and advancement of Southern Utah Pride @ Zion for its sixth year. We have set some ambitious goals in the belief that only through diligence and ardent desire will we truly attain our full potential. Please help us reach our goal of having 5,000 people in attendance! There will be a full calendar of events as well as some extremely exciting entertainers and exhibitors!
